Denver to mountains?

i am living in denver for the summer and would like to take some time in the mountains. i was wondering where the best place would be to go in the mountains with nice views and walking ares. i would also like to no if there are any good roadsor routes to just drive around in the mountains with spots to pull over and take some nice pictures
