Did he like me or was he messing with my head?

There is this kid in my Math cl that I've known since freshman year. Freshmen year he would always stare at me, he asked me what my homeroom was and when I told him and asked him why he wanted to know he was like "just asking." Sopre year i was waiting outside and a group of his friends ped by and they were like "hey that's the girl {name of kid} blah blah blah." I never found out what they said and I didn't want to over think anything so I just blew it off. One day when I was walking ped his table in the lunch his friends were like "its your girlfriend look, look!" then my friend went and asked him if he liked me and he never responded to her. Then senior year he would keep staring at me and we were in lunch and his friends were like what about the girl you like that sits at the next table?" We were talking one time after math and it seemed like he wanted to keep talking, but I wasn't sure. Every time I was next to him i would get a vibe that he wanted to talk to me. I told his friend that I liked him and his friend was prying and trying to get more information, then I told him that i thought he was an at first and the next day his response was "you should give up on him because he goes for girls that are like 20 or older being that he's 19" so I don't understand.
