Has the election result proved that our electoral system is completely out of date?

I'm in two minds, but it seems odd to me that 500,000+ maniacs voted BNP and they aren't even represented by a maniac in parliament. Other people being made to vote for a second best, because they have a naff constituency, with stuck ways. How can we expect people to feel they have a voice in the UK?
