I need to get a patent?

Hello, I have an idea that I think would be pretty good. I have tried a couple of different patent companys who all say "figure that" that the idea would be very profitable. They all say that I need to pay around $1100 just for them to patent it. Is there a cheaper and easier way to do this myself??
